Eat in: Madre – An oasis in the middle of a cellar

As I said in my last post La CandelariaWhat to do in this emblematic neighborhood of Bogotá, one of the things I liked the most in this neighborhood was its wide gastronomic offer. From homemade fast food to top restaurants, like the one I’m going to talk about today.

Restaurante Madre La Candelaria Bogota Colombia

Madre, is an Italian restaurant on the 12th street with 5th ave. The truth is when your first arrive, your first impression is that it will be a typical restaurant of the city center, small, traditional, homely. It’s inside a commercial passage where you can find jewelry and emeralds, and when you cross a small door, you find what I thought was an oasis in the middle of a cellar.

Before Madre, this was an empty space, abandoned. It still preserves its brick walls, which gives the place a rustic touch, very Brooklyn-ess! Inside, there are empty bird cages hanging, a green zone full of plants and other old furniture that decorates the place. The bathrooms, on the other hand, are very modern, with mirrors in the ceiling and the handwash is outside visible to everyone. You really feel like in a traditional home from the city center, a mother’s home.

Service is good, quick and the servers are young, tattooed and with chilled looks. The food is delicious, from the starters to the desserts. What I liked the most, is that all dishes have a typical person’s name: Don Francisco, Don Juan, Maria Antonia, etc. And the background music, there was Colombian music playing that day, gave a good atmosphere, almost festive.

Drink: Of course, a very cold Club Colombia. They recommend la panelada, a drink made with flor de jamaica and panela. We’ll have to try it next time.

Starter: Omero – Crunchy morcillas with apple and pear chutney, on top of arracacha chips and avocado cream. EX-QUI-SITE.

Principal: I ordered a Doña Lola – Chicken breast filled with mozzarella, basil, tomato, mushrooms, rolled on crunchy bacon, green salad and mini potatoes with sour cream. I also tried the pizza Maria Antonia, with Serrano ham, arugula, mozzarella and tomato. y papitas con sour cream. También probé la pizza Maria Antonia de jamón serrano, rúcula, mozzarella y tomate.

Dessert: A KILLING tiramisu.
